Kids and ExerciseFinding the time to exercise when you have kids can be tough
At first Cody did it with me then after about a week of that he was done and would say “ No don’t exercise mom” and he would do anything to prevent it. So then I tried doing it after he went to bed and I discovered after an 8 hour work day, cooking dinner, playing and bathing my son and then putting him to bed, I was too tired to do anything. So what did I do? Well, I gained weight, until I caught myself laying on my bed to be able to zip up my jeans, and trust me they didn’t feel good once they were on! So I decided it was time to take some action. I had lost a lot of my baby fat after having Cody by walking on a treadmill so I decided to start doing it again. Once again I had the problem of when I could do it. I had heard the best time is in the morning so I decided to tough it out and wake up early and do it every morning before work and before Cody woke up. It wasn’t easy getting use to it but, after about 3 days of doing it, I started feeling a lot better and having more energy throughout the day. Now, even on my day off, I wake up at the same time, do my work out, take a shower and get some things done before anyone wakes up. Sometimes I even have a little time to myself, which is nice. This my not work for all of you, but there are other things you can do. If your baby is young enough there are a lot of workouts you can do with them and it will be fun for both of you. See the link I have to the left on exercising with your baby.: If your child is like mine and you can’t workout with them, and you can’t get yourself up in the morning, there are other things you can do. One thing I do is take walks. I put Cody in his wagon, which he loves, and we go for a walk in the neighborhood, I tried to do it at a park but he wanted to get out and play so I gave up on that. But don’t give up on trying to workout. Here are some suggestions that can help. While cooking dinner, stand with your feet lined up with your hips and bend at the knees, hands on your hips or out to the side and tighten your stomach muscles and do 30 squats. If you are waiting in line or have some time when your just standing, raise up on your tip toes, hold for five seconds, then lower and repeat. If you have stairs in your house, jog down them and then do lunges coming up. If your child loves music as much as mine, put on some music and dance around the house with them. If you watch Dancing with the stars you know dancing is a great work out.
